Flat rate got you down??? Automotive Technician Needed!
Jobs
Augusta GA
Description
Unlike dealerships and independent automotive shops who pay based on flat rate, we pay based on a team effort, and we hire the best. No cut throat shenanigans or politics here, just working hard for a fair wage and putting the customer first in every situation. While you are re-wiring something on the inside of a dash, and possibly disliking the job you are working on...the guy next to you is putting in an alternator, and the guy next to him is doing a brake job, and down on the end the other guy is doing a gravy timing belt...and all of those jobs are adding to the "bucket" from which you get some percentage of for your pay...most shops you'd be jealous of the jobs those guys are doing compared to the one you are doing...but not here. Here, you want him to do well, and he wants you to do well...grow the total volume of what we do per week...and then each man has his own pay scale with his own unique % that he gets of that total pot of money which you all helped to create. Let’s say we agreed to pay you 52k per year...it might look something like this- Hourly - 9.25 x 40 = 370 Overtime - 13.875 x 10 = 138.75 Profit sharing = 65 (19,200) MDM @ 2.0% = 384 Overtime additional factor = 44.90 Total = 1002.65 x 52 = 52,137.80 For instance, you might make 9.25 dollars per hour, 50 hours per week, every week, you also get a profit sharing mechanism that’s somewhere around 65 dollars per week which includes (a portion of every oil change performed, portion of all tire rotations/rotation and balances, and 2.5% of mechanical revenue after the cost of the parts is removed, and then divided by everyone in the shop). At 50 hours per week, (our standard work week) you would be able to make the 52k per year we agreed upon...we’ve averaged 19,200 per week in MDM, mechanical department margin...mechanical revenue minus our cost on parts...the goal is that we agree on 52k...but then we add you as a technician and you help us to grow that weekly MDM to 22500...which would change your profit sharing to roughly 70 and your MDM @ 2.0% to 450...to bring your weekly total to 1080.75 which projects a yearly wage of 56,199!...so you maybe do 3,000 more per week in mechanical...OR maybe you help identify 3,000 more during inspections.....or maybe you manage to increase our productivity to get that much more done per week...who knows, I do know that when I got to that store it was averaging around 4,000 per week in MDM...and I’ve seen it grow every year, some years in a HUGE way, some years just a bit. It has always come down to having the right people. The point here is that we agree on a scale based on what we are doing, if nothing changes, and we do the exact same amount, you'll make exactly what we agree upon...if we start having decreases, so will you, if we start having increases, so will you! However, only about 40% of your pay is based on mechanical department margin...which helps keep your pay more stable, unlike some dealerships where some guys have complained to me that a good week they take home 2,000 dollars but on a bad week they take home 200 dollars. In the example I gave, a really, really bad week we'd go from our 19,200 average in MDM to 12,000 which is basically unheard of, but just for an example, at 12,000 your overall pay would decrease about 170 dollars for the week...where as say we did 28,000 in MDM for the week, you'd increase about 205 in commission. SO, the point is, while long term there is great opportunity to grow as the store grows...you don't have to worry about going home with 100 dollar paycheck because we had a bad week. If any of that math is confusing, I can explain in person. Our pay scales are really, really simple...but to the untrained eye they can look a bit complex at first. We have two stores in the CSRA, both of which are growing rapidly...one store holds a 4.8/5.0 on 374 Google reviews and the other has a 4.9/5.0 on 149 reviews, that's the #2 and the #3 shop in Augusta from an online customer perspective out of over 100 shops. This is not an accident, we live and die by our reputation care very much about preserving it. We prefer technicians who are capable of writing their own tickets when needed (but typically have a service writer on staff) and professionally interacting with the customers. After 90 days, we offer Medical, Dental, Vision, and Life Insurance...I pay 50%, you pay 50%---for you, the employee, after 6 months, I switch to paying 75%, you pay 25%, after paying this amount for 6 months, I switch to 100%, you pay 0%. So, after one year and three months, you, the employee, can have FREE medical, dental, vision, and life insurance, roughly 5,500 dollar value.
