Hello Austin Peeps! I am a middle aged out of state bassist. I describe my music theory level as moderate, meaning I know enough not to derail a song, but not a 1 banger, unless that's what the song dictates. I can play rock, pop, grunge, blues, and would like to try getting into jazz, indie, and whatever "Americana" is. I play both electric and upright. My question to you guys: hows your music scene? Is it as good as everyone claims? A lot of people have told me that you can walk a mile pass 7 venues all playing something original and different styles. Where I'm from, western pa, the bar cover band reigns supreme, and what original acts there are the same 2 or 3 guys are in most of em, and are usually REALLY metal, kinda metal, or punk. We also seem to have a weird hostility, if I were to post this in my city, itll prolly get flagged and deleted. I figure I should ask how it really it is before I just jump in blindly. I do want a change.
