Description
The Bug House presents three stellar songwriters sharing songs and stories, in an intimate listening room setting. Florence Dore is a Nashville-born, North Carolina-based independent musical artist making a new record, Highways and Rocketships. The road from her first record Perfect City (Slewfoot 2001) to Highways and Rocketships has been anything but straight. She spent a lot of time between then and now riding around on Steve Earle’s tour bus, catching up with her Dukes-drumming husband Will Rigby. She also wrote a book, put on a conference at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, took a seat on the board at the Bob Dylan Institute as well. Somewhere along the way she and Will had a kid too. Florence played for years before recording—the Posies covered her song “Christmas” for a 1994 Geffen release. In her travels she has had the opportunity to interview masters of the trade (the late great John Prine, Richard Thompson, Lucinda Williams, and Steve Earle, to name a few) and is working on a new book now that compiles these. It dawned on her at some point that she was ready to write songs again and start touring. So she did. She assembled a great band (you know these guys: they have played with the likes of Steve Earle, Bruce Springsteen, R.E.M., Hootie and the Blowfish, and Son Volt), began to tour, and then the world shut down. Over the pandemic, she co-created Cover Charge, a charting compilation of NC artists to benefit Cat’s Cradle. Her band has just finished recording Highways and Rocketships with Mitch Easter and Don Dixon, and she is set to start touring when it comes out in early 2022. Sam Frazier is a guitarist, singer and songwriter from Greensboro, NC who’s music blends emotional and musical complexity with the heart of a rock-n-roller. He has released two solo CDs (Half a Million Years and Sam Frazier). He was a member of the band Tornado with whom he released a long playing record album (First Alert) and a CD (When a Breeze Breaks Your Bones). He has also performed and/or recorded with Martha Bassett, Bruce Piephoff, Abigail Dowd, Molly McGinn, Laurelyn Dossett, Jeffrey Dean Foster & others, and has opened shows for Joan Armatrading, The Neville Brothers, America, The Funky Meters, The Duhks, The Del McCrory Band, The Atlanta Rhythm Section, Eric Church, Craig Morgan & Root Boy Slim, to name a few. Wyatt Easterling - After many years of working all angles of the music business in such diverse roles as a multi-platinum producer and songwriter, to Chief of A&R for Atlantic Records, to signing on as a staff writer for DreamWorks, EMI and Bugle in Nashville, Wyatt has had the opportunity to work and perform with some of the finest songwriters and artists from around the world touching on a number of different genres. All of these various roles have influenced his craft as a songwriter and performer. With his intricate guitar work and engaging voice Wyatt easily connects with his audiences. *Proof of negative COVID test or vaccination required for entry into this show. **Masks must be worn at all times while inside the listening room.
