Learn about people who lived and died in Longmeadow and find out how their gravestones honor their lives. This is a newly designed daytime event for ages 10 and up. Marvel at the craftsmanship of our local gravestone carvers and hear the stories of the lives that inspired their work. Co-Sponsored by the Longmeadow Historical Society & Longmeadow Cemetery Association. Tours last approximately 30-45 minutes. MASKS STRONGLY ENCOURAGED Limit 8 people per tour. Ages: 10+ Some content may be unsuitable for a younger audience. Rain date: Sunday October 10th (all ticket holders will be notified via email) FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS Where should I park? Parking is located on Williams Street and in front of the Community House. Is the event handicapped accessible? The cemetery is a typical old New England cemetery. The area is grass-covered and may be uneven. Are there public restrooms? No. Can I cancel? You can cancel through Eventbrite for a refund up to 24 hours before the event. After that your ticket will be non-refundable. Do I have to wear a mask during the tour? Masks are strongly encouraged, as 6 foot social distancing may not be possible at all times Why can’t children under 10 attend this event? Some of the discussion will relate to death and may not be appropriate for younger children. Additionally, younger children may not have the attention span to wait for the interpreter to finish their story at each grave. What if it rains? Rain date is Sunday Oct. 10. If the tours need to be rescheduled you will receive an email notification by 10 am on Saturday Oct. 9 that the tour will be held on Sunday. It will be sent to the email you registered when purchasing the ticket. Is this the Ghost in the Graveyard event? No, this event is different. It will be held during the day and only the interpreters (tour guides) will be dressed in historical costumes. There will be no Ghosts. You will hear stories about the townspeople who are buried in the cemetery and learn information about some of the gravestones.
