FREE! Practice real conversations in American Sign Language (ASL). Immersing yourself into ASL is the best way to improve your ASL skills. You do not need tickets. Just look for us on the patio. WHAT: ASL Practice WHEN: Mondays, 7PM - 9PM WHO: Everyone welcome. All ASL levels. WHERE: Uncle Bears (Mesa Baseline), off the 60 & 202 (9053 E Baseline Rd, Mesa, AZ) Practice having real conversations in American Sign Language (ASL). Immersing yourself into ASL is the best way to improve your ASL skills. EVERYONE IS WELCOME: All levels of ASL from beginner to fluent. All people from all walks of life: all sizes, abilities, genders, ethnicities, styles, political persuasions, religious affiliations, cultural backgrounds, relationship statuses, educational histories, etc. ALL people are welcome. Practice Group Rules: By joining this group, you are making a commitment to support a Deaf-friendly environment that is centered upon visual communication, specifically in American Sign Language. 1. Voices off: This means speaking aloud is not allowed. No English. 2. No discriminatory behavior: Our group has zero tolerance for audism, ableism, racism, sexism, homophobia, or other bigotry. 3. No drama: You know what this means. 4. Show respect: Be courteous and thoughtful of other people, the things around you, the venue, and especially the waitstaff. 5. Be nice: Be pleasant, good natured, helpful, kind, and especially patient. 6. Masks are optional: If someone wants to wear a mask, it is none of your business. If you ask why or criticize their choice, you will be removed and banned. 7. Absolutely no political discussions. Zero tolerance. 8. Membership in this group is a privilege not a right: If you are creating disruptions or strife, you can be removed at any time. 9. Have fun! Tips for ASL practice attendees: 1. Position yourself in a way that allows everyone conversing to see each other clearly. 2. Check frequently to ensure you are not blocking other people's view of others. 3. Avoid placing objects down that block visual communication. 4. Avoid distractions, and maintain eyes on the person who is signing. 5. When you need to know the meaning of a sign or need to learn a new sign, use ASL to ask your questions. (We can teach you how to do this.)
