15 October, 2021

Description

Guest student speakers, a collaborative art project, and a keynote speaker talking about loneliness and connections. This event is based on an annual event by The Foundation for Art and Healing (https://artandhealing.org/) which seeks to provide people with solidarity in regard to their loneliness, a community of like-minded people, and resources to help them combat loneliness. This event will take place during a time of year (October) when many people feel an increase in loneliness. Furthermore, it is common at a big university for individuals to feel lonely regardless of how many people they are around. Loneliness has been associated with negative effects on mental health, such as increased depressive symptoms, as well as physical health, such as increased fatigue. Our version of the event will help students fight loneliness and, in turn, lower the physical and mental health effects discussed above through various informational and fun activities. Activities will include a keynote presentation on loneliness, short film viewings, small group discussions, guest student speakers, and a collaborative art project. University well-being and mental health resources will be offered as well. **MUST BE A UNIVERSITY OF MINNESOTA STUDENT TO ATTEND** Located in the Mississippi Room at Coffman Memorial Union. Food will be provided.
