PORT WASHINGTON, NY — For those looking to adopt a pet, a great place to look for your new family member is at the Town of North Hempstead Animal Shelter. The facility, located at 75 Marino Ave. in Port Washington, houses dozens of dogs — and all of them need a furever home. At Patch, we round up a list of adoptable dogs for a series called "Patch's Adoptable Pets of the Week." This week, we only have one new dog that came to the shelter — so he's not sharing the spotlight with any other pooch. His name is Dempsey. The dog-only shelter is facilitating adoptions by appointment only. An appointment can be made by calling 516-869-6311. Dempsey displays a typical herding dog personality and enjoys having a "job"— he loves our agility course and wants to learn more. He is not overly affectionate but he does enjoy being pet and going for walks. Dempsey is seeking an active family with older children (ages 12+), ideally with working breed experience, that is dedicated to continuing his training.
