Pearl River Resident's Name Added To Rockland Police Memorial

ROCKLAND COUNTY, NY — It's Sheriff's Week in New York State, and the week started in Rockland with a sad ceremony at the Police Memorial in front of the County Courthouse. Pearl River resident Patrick T. McGovern's name has been added to the memorial. McGovern, 43, died of a 9/11 related illness in 2019. McGovern served 19 years with NYPD's 49th precinct and the Bronx Zoo detail. McGovern was honored along with the other 39 law enforcement Rockland residents who made the ultimate sacrifice. "Each year we come together at this time to remember our fallen heroes and their families," Sheriff Louis Falco said. "We cannot thank them enough for what they have done for us. We must never forget, but always cherish and honor their memory for generations to come. For as long as we remember, a part of those lost will always remain." This year from Sept. 19 - 25, Sheriff's Week marks the contributions made by the office of Sheriff in county government and in the statewide criminal justice system. Fifty-five of New York's 58 sheriffs are elected officials responsible for the complex operations of a sheriff's office, which can include criminal law enforcement, traffic patrol, emergency rescue operations, homeland security programs, SWAT operations, civil emergency response, jail operations, correctional alternative management, courtroom security, and civil litigation process. The Rockland County Sheriff's Office provides a wide range of services to the residents and works closely with Federal, State, Town and Village law enforcement agencies to provide public safety services.
