West Nile In Marlborough: Mosquito Tests Positive

MARLBOROUGH, MA — A mosquito trapped in Marlborough tested positive for the West Nile virus (WNV), according to the Board of Health, prompting an extra round of local mosquito spraying. Marlborough is the latest local community to return a positive WNV result following Worcester and Milford in recent weeks. Marlborough, however, remains a "low risk" area for contracting the virus, according to the state Department of Public Health. The positive test in Marlborough was located in the northeast corner of the city off Concord Road near Sudbury, according to the health board. That's where spraying was set to occur on Wednesday evening, weather permitting. The state has seen an uptick in WNV cases this month, with almost the entire greater Boston area now considered high-risk for contracting the virus. Nearby towns like Natick, Wayland, Lincoln, Milford and Upton are all at moderate risk. So far this summer, 127 mosquitoes across the state have tested positive for WNV along with seven humans and one animal, according to DPH.
