GLEN HEAD, NY — A Glen Head woman is among those vying for stardom and a hefty cash prize in the world's first avatar singing competition series "Alter Ego." FOX's new show, which debuted Wednesday, gives 20 contestants the unique opportunity to dress up in motion-capture suits and perform a song backstage for a panel of powerhouse judges. It's similar to the network's hit TV show "The Masked Singer" — in which contestants have secret identities. But instead of performing behind a mask, contestants are belting out tunes in real-time through a CGI avatar. As the only contestant from Long Island, 21-year-old Samaera Hirsch will be competing for $100,000 and a chance to create an album, with help from the show's four celebrity judges: Alanis Morissette, Nick Lachey, Grimes, and will.i.am. Hirsch's alter ego, Misty Rose, takes its first name from her cat and its last name from Hirsch's middle name, Newsday reports. 2021 FOX Media LLC According to what appears to be her LinkedIn profile, Hirsch is a senior majoring in Business, Management, Marketing, and Related Support Services at Tulane University in New Orleans. The show's double-episode series premiere continues Thursday, Sept. 22 at 9 p.m. EST. Here's a trailer for "Alter Ego:"
