Here are the top stories today in Denver: Denver-based KP Kauffman is facing the second largest fine for leaks and spills ever given by Colorado oil and gas regulators. The $2 million fine is in response to 22 violations across 7 sites and was unanimously voted for by the commission. The violations varied from flow lines to spreading contaminated soil without permits. The commission has yet to decide if it will impose other penalties such as suspending clearance certificates. (ColoradoSun)The bridge between Federal Boulevard and Zuni Street that goes over the South Platte River will be removed and replaced. The project will cause an 8-month closure until May 2022 in order to increase safety for pedestrians and bicyclists by adding 10ft wide sidewalks. The project is estimated to cost $10.8 million and will be funded through the Elevate Denver bond program. (Patch)Denver Police are offering a $2,000 reward for information on two robberies that occurred on Saturday. The first was around 5:00 am at the West Colfax 7-Eleven, and the second was around 5:10 am at the North Zuni St. Conoco Store. (Fox31)During the Department of Public Safety's budget hearing, new details emerged about Denver's Street Enforcement Team (SET). The program will cost the city more than $977,000 through the end of 2021, and is modeled after other civilian enforcement programs like the Urban Park Rangers and Right-of-Way (ROW) Officers who can write parking tickets. Some members of the Denver City Council have expressed concerns over deputizing citizens to respond to homelessness. (DenverVoice)Beginning next year, in-home and community-based direct care workers will earn a minimum wage of $15 per hour. The State Joint Budget Committee approved the wage hike on Tuesday, 5-1, that will take place as of January 1.
