Cal High Lockdown Lifted After Threat Investigation

SAN RAMON, CA — San Ramon police have lifted a lockdown at California High School but are maintaining an increased police presence after a student saw a threat of violence on social media. There is no evidence to suggest the threat is credible and students will be released at their normal pickup time, according to police and district spokesperson Denise Jennison. Police said they will stay on campus through dismissal. A student saw the threat posted on social media app Snapchat, Jennison said. The threat was not specific to Cal High but administrators decided to bring students in from their sixth-period classes early out of an abundance of caution, she said. Police thoroughly searched the campus. Police said they believe the threat "may have been generated using a 'spoofed' social media account." The campus has a "significant officer presence ... which will continue throughout the day to ensure the safety of all students, faculty, and community members," the San Ramon Police Department said in a message sent to the community 1:50 p.m. Wednesday. Police "will continue to do everything we can to ensure the public's safety." This comes nearly a week after a Livermore High School student was arrested on suspicion of threatening violence on campus. This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
