OSWEGO, IL — Village officials swore in the newest patrol officer for the Oswego Police Department at Tuesday night's Village Board meeting. Rakan S. Ammari, 26, was sworn in by Village President Troy Parlier following an introduction by Chief Jeff Burgner. Ammari's parents and one of his sisters, Julie, attended the meeting and sat in the audience. The patrol officer joins the police department from the Yorkville-Montgomery area, where he graduated from Yorkville High School. He graduated in May 2020 from Aurora University with bachelor's and master's degrees in business administration. He'll be graduating from the Suburban Law Enforcement Academy at the College of DuPage Friday. "We're very fortunate to have picked you up during your academy and you'll start your field training on Monday, so that'll really help us get you out in the field much quicker than traditionally," Burgner said at the meeting. In Burgner's introduction of Ammari, he said he interned with the Naperville Police Department as well as at a marketing firm. In his free time, Burgner said Ammari enjoys spending time with his friends and family, traveling to new countries and hiking. He also enjoys serving at his church. "We're extremely excited to have you in our department and have you be part of our team," Burgner said. "We really look forward to all your success here."
