Palm Desert Golf Parade Postponed Again Amid COVID

PALM DESERT, CA — The 57th Annual Palm Desert Golf Parade that was scheduled to take place on Halloween has been postponed to 2022 amid COVID-19 concerns, but an exact date has not yet been set. "The Palm Desert Area Chamber of Commerce and the Golf Cart Parade committee have worked hard over the past few months on the Palm Desert Golf Cart Parade, planning to ensure a fun and safe event," a statement Tuesday from the Palm Desert Area Chamber of Commerce said. "Over the past week, we started to receive word that many of the usual parade participants — including many of the young people who march, volunteer, and attend — will not be able to attend the parade this year. This meant that we would lose some of the staples of a great parade such as our music, our pancake breakfast and many of the children and families who usually line El Paseo to take in the spectacle," the statement continued. "We've also heard from the senior community, who are especially vulnerable to COVID and its variants, that they have reservations about attending an in-person event, despite the precautions we've planned to protect their health," the statement said. "We take these concerns seriously, and with the withdrawal of several other key collaborators, we knew that we were reaching a tipping point." According to the Chamber, the desire to put on "a fantastic parade" has been driven by the need to watch out for the safety and health of the community. "With all of these elements in mind, the Board of Directors has made the difficult decision to postpone the Golf Cart Parade, in order to come back stronger and better than ever when the time is right," according to the statement. In addition to the parade, the Oct. 31 festivities were to include a flyover by the Palm Springs Air Museum. NFL legend and recent Pro Football Hall of Fame Inductee Tom Flores and his wife, Barbara, were set to be the 2021 Golf Cart Parade Grand Marshals. The theme for this year's festivities was to be "Masquerade Party." According to the Palm Desert Area Chamber of Commerce, the organization looks forward to welcoming everyone back to the Palm Desert Golf Cart Parade in 2022.
