MOUNT PROSPECT, IL — A male pedestrian was killed early Sunday after being struck by an SUV on Algonquin Road (Route 62) near Linneman Road. Police found the 54-year-old man lying in the parkway at around 12:05 a.m.
The preliminary results of an investigation, released on Tuesday by the Mount Prospect Police Department, reveal a Chevrolet Trax was traveling eastbound Algonquin Road east of Linneman Road. Driven by a 58-year-old Des Plaines resident, the SUV struck the pedestrian who was crossing Algonquin Road near 1449 E. Algonquin Road.
The male pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, according to the news release. The driver of the Chevrolet Trax was not injured as a result of the crash. The police department is still working to identify the identity of the deceased pedestrian. The Cook County Medical Examiner's Office confirmed his age.
This traffic crash is currently being investigated by the Mount Prospect Police Department Major Crash Investigation Team, along with the assistance from the Major Case Assistance Team's Serious Traffic Accident Reconstruction Team, according to the news release.
