LAKE VIEW, AL —Residents of the City of Lake View voted in staunch opposition Tuesday to increasing fire protection dues for homeowners, with the measure failing in landslide fashion 112-621. Click here to subscribe to our free Tuscaloosa Daily newsletter and breaking news alerts As Patch reported earlier Tuesday, the now-failed measure would have required non-commercial properties to be charged $1 for every $1,000 on the improvement market value of their home. The revenue generated would have been earmarked for the Lake View Fire District to purchase new equipment and increase its staffing. "The people have spoken," the Lake View Fire District told Patch Tuesday night after the final results came in. "The final results 621 to 112 in favor of keeping the 2003 rate schedule. We would like to thank all those who supported us. We would have liked to have the opportunity to provide more for our community but respect the wishes of the people." In their campaign for increased dues, Lake View Fire District officials stressed that residents typically pay $75 per home annually at present.
