The on-site caretaker is responsible for horse farm and grounds maintenance duties, tractor work, mowing and generally maintaining the appearance of the farm. Must work a minimum of 20 hours per week in exchange for housing and utilities. Housing is a renovated camper trailer with water and electric or a studio cottage, both located on the property. Candidate will be able to seek additional employment if desired or paid opportunities are available on-site as well. The equestrian farm is located on a 465 acre nature preserve. This is a part-time position in exchange for housing and utilities. Duties/Responsibilities in exchange for rent/utilities: AM Feeding 5 days a week: Feed horses grain and turn horses in or out depending on the season Clean and fill water troughs Prepare grain for next shift Fill in if feed staff calls in last minute Report medical issues to supervisor Report maintenance issues to supervisor Maintain horse pastures: Mowing quarterly (or more often if needed) Dragging quarterly (or more often as needed) Repair or replace fence boards as needed Repair or replace fence posts as needed Maintain hotwire pastures fixing down wire immediately ensuring fence is up and in working order keep perimeter clear of weeds/debris that will reduce effectiveness of fence Maintain shelters Clear manure bi-monthly Fill mineral and salt containers as needed Maintain arenas drag indoor arena daily Wednesday through Sunday twice daily on Sunday to prepare for use on Monday and Tuesday drag outdoor arena daily Wednesday through Sunday Water indoor arena daily Wednesday through Sunday (or as needed) drag dry lot weekly at minimum perform preventative maintenance to keep footing from piling in outside edges of arena Put round bale hay out As pastures run out of hay move hay rings to preserve pasture Security Securing gate after hours Inspect facilities as needed for the following: Inappropriate or unlawful behavior including but not limited to alcohol / drug use, vandalism, unauthorized events/parties, or any other unauthorized use. Using park facilities without a permit Vehicles in unauthorized areas (trails, hay fields, etc.) Securing gates after hours General overall security of park Night checks on stalled horses as needed Assist with construction projects Preventative maintenance on facility Other duties as assigned
