Guest Presenter: John Solum, trustee of The Friends of James Daugherty Foundation. John Solum will outline the special qualities of Connecticut, which may have led James Daugherty to move to Weston from New York City in 1923. He will tell of Daugherty's work as an illustrator and how he broke into this highly competitive field. Daugherty was also a painter and muralist and created a rich legacy of modernist paintings and murals, encompassing both historical and biblical subjects. Eight original Daugherty pieces, which are on display at the Weston History and Culture Center(Weston Historical Society) as part of its 1920’s exhibit, “Weston Slept While the Nation Roared: Life in the Twenties”, will be incorporated into the presentation.This is an in person lecture with limited seating. Reservations Required!Masks must be worn regardless of vaccination status. Lecture takes place at 104 Weston Road in Weston, CT. Parking and entrance is accessed from High Acre Road. Lecture takes place in red building adjacent to parking lot. Follow lit path to white double doors on red building.The lecture is free, but registration is required.
