Join us for our annual fall dinner, featuring a four course tasting menu prepared by Richard Ravosa, from L'Avvocato Trattoria Catering. Please join us on Friday, November 5th for MDRF’s annual fall dinner. This year’s dinner features an Italian tasting menu curated and prepared by L’Avvocato Trattoria. Each dish infuses high quality fresh quality ingredients prepared in the time-honored traditions of the old country. Due to Covid-19 and local guidelines, please be aware that to attend masks are required when not seated. MDRF is a small Massachusetts 501(c)(3) charity celebrating ten years of providing free legal assistance to low-income Massachusetts residents. With our assistance our clients receive legal representation they otherwise would be unable to afford, are able to move past financial hardships and begin to work towards achieving their financial goals. Our program provides free legal consultations and direct assistance to 150 to 200 individuals per year. MDRF continues to be recognized for our innovative program. Our Founder and Board Chairman was awarded the Paul H. Chapman Award by the Foundation for Improvement of Justice, Inc. in 2015. And our Executive Director and Program Attorney Maegan Hurley was included in the American Bankruptcy Institute’s 2018 40 Under 40 Class, and received a Top Women of Law Award by Massachusetts Lawyers Weekly in 2020. MDRF Client Success Story: “In 2013, due to budget cuts I was laid off from a position I held for a decade. At the time I was debt free, with good credit, and qualified for unemployment. When unemployment benefits and my savings ran out, I had to turn to credit cards for the basics, expecting I would soon get enough work to pay them off. Unfortunately, after 2 years, I still couldn’t find adequate income, and soon was paying my minimum payments instead of buying soap, food, and other necessities, because I didn’t want to rack up more fees. This was not sustainable, and knowing I was over my head, I consulted debt consolidation organizations, but the minimum payments would have been higher than what I already couldn’t afford. Googling for any info I could find, I came upon an article about MDRF. I contacted the number, and Maegan immediately returned my call. She asked thorough questions and explained my options. We decided I was a good candidate for bankruptcy, and she would assist me in the entire process for free if I chose that route. I can’t explain the relief I felt. Her compassion, professionalism, guidance, and expertise through every step was outstanding. Not only did I receive debt relief, she empowered me with the tools to rebuild my life.
