OUR SPEAKERAngie Pellerin was born and raised in Alexandria, Louisiana. As a non-traditional first-generation college student, Angie worked diligently for many years putting herself through college, balancing school, work, and marriage as a military spouse. It took her a while, but eventually, she earned dual bachelor’s degrees from LSU in English and Psychology, at ages 29 and 31, respectively. Along the way, she worked in a variety of jobs, including in restaurant, retail, insurance, hospital, and health club environments, as well as working as a technical writer for a commercial real estate appraisal firm, and a few years in property management. Angie also later earned a Master of Arts in English from San Diego State University, as well as a Master of Science in Counseling Psychology from LSU Shreveport.Angie currently works at LSU Shreveport. During her time at LSUS, Angie started as a graduate student worker in Student Development, later did her counseling internship in that office, and ultimately was hired as a full-time counselor upon graduation in May 2016. Two years later, she was promoted to her current role of Director of Counseling Services in August 2018. In this role, she oversees mental health counseling and wellness support for our currently enrolled students, while also providing related consultation to the campus community. Angie also received training in vinyasa yoga and other mind-body practices, and has incorporated yoga, meditation, and biofeedback training to mental health outreach efforts. Additionally, she currently serves as a Senator on the Staff Senate, is a member of various campus committees (Behavioral Intervention Team, Title IX Task Force, Wellness Task Force, Retention Committee), and occasionally teaches college courses as an adjunct. She can frequently be seen or heard out in the community presenting to various groups or guesting on a local radio show. Angie can also be heard with the Counseling Services team on the podcast she hosts out of LSUS Counseling Services, “Say It Out Loud – Tackling Tough Topics Together,” available on all major platforms.
