Nova is the lead singer and songwriter for her band My Brightest Diamond.
Date: Oct. 9, 2021 | 7 p.m. | Free, open to the public
UNT Art Building Courtyard, 1201 W. Mulberry St., Denton, TX 76201
Come listen to Nova’s voice as you see the images created by generative adversarial networks, GANs. These machine-learning frameworks treat images as data to help Ritchie create unique, uncanny artworks that echo the current paradox of stasis and change in the world. Using his sketches for his sculpture called Shadow Garden, botanical drawings and selected images from the Metropolitan Museum of Art's collection of drawings and prints, Ritchie trained multiple GANs to produce the artworks on view.
“The diverse aspects of the project — song, sculpture, software, teaching, performance, painting and film — collectively create a larger space for an idea of the work that hovers in time and space, floating in the twilight area between raw information and human meaning, between signal and noise,” Ritchie said.
Exhibition is open through Dec. 10, 2021: Ritchie’s project includes 36 machine-learning paintings in an exhibition titled “Florilegium” now on exhibit in the CVAD Gallery in the UNT Art Building, the commissioned choral work by Nova, a new permanent outdoor sculpture garden and a collaboration with students.
