Working with families that are dealing with substance use disorders can be challenging and complex. As therapists, we all need tools and new modalities to help the patients we serve. In this CEU presentation, we will discuss: How to identify substance use disorders in the family system How the cycle of addiction and codependency are similar How each family member becomes isolated and communication decreases How to identify which communication styles are “not working” How to address the recovery needs of each person in the system What boundaries are (and what they are not!)
