Volunteers needed for LDE. The College of Agriculture and Human Sciences needs your help!!! We are asking you to assist us in volunteering as we host this year's LDE. This event will host hundreds of Texas FFA high school students and will feature eight career-related events. When: October 14, 2021 Volunteers needed from: 7:00 am - 2:00 pm Check-in: Carden-Waller Building LDE Competitions begin at 9:00 a.m. Prior to the event, all volunteers must attend one of several scheduled orientation sessions as arranged by the event coordinator. Dates will be announced and sent to volunteers by email. Volunteers are needed in the following areas: Agricultural Advocacy (@Cooperative Agricultural Research Center Seminar Room): This contest will be designed to inform the general public and consumers about the importance and value of the agricultural industry and how agriculture impacts human lives. Agricultural Advocacy teams will be made up of 3-5 members from the same chapter. Volunteers needed: 3 professional staff; 3 students Agricultural Issues Forum (@Carden-Waller Bldg Auditorium): A team of 3 to 7 students research and analyze a current agricultural issue, create a portfolio and also develop and deliver a presentation that stresses both pros and cons of their selected agricultural issue. At the event competition, members use verbal skills and presentation abilities to defend their findings and answer judges’ questions. Volunteers needed: 3 professional staff; 3 students Junior and Senior Chapter Conducting (@Carden-Waller Extension Program Building Seminar Room B or University Farm Poultry Center): Teams conduct a mock chapter meeting to demonstrate knowledge of basic parliamentary law and the use of correct parliamentary procedures. At the conclusion of the meeting, team members are asked questions regarding parliamentary law. There are both Greenhand and senior levels for this event. Volunteers needed: 5 professional staff and 5 students. All volunteers MUST be knowledgeable of judging Parliamentary Procedure. Junior and Senior Creed Speaking (@TBD): A member presents the FFA Creed from memory and answers questions about its meaning and purpose. This event is just one way to boost self-confidence, earn recognition, and develop powerful, organized and professional communication skills. There are both Greenhand and senior levels for this event. Volunteers needed: 5 professional staff and 5 students Greenhand FFA Quiz (@A.I. Thomas Building, Becton Auditorium): An exam testing knowledge of the Grays Guide to Parliamentary Procedure for FFA and FFA knowledge including history, facts, business structure, leadership and programs is given to individuals. Quiz teams can be made of 3 or 4 members. Volunteers needed: 3 professional staff; 6 students Chapter Agricultural Quiz (@A.I. Thomas Building, Becton Auditorium): An exam testing team members’ understanding of the FFA, agricultural education, current agricultural events and parliamentary procedure is given. Teams can be made of 3 or 4 members. Volunteers needed: 3 professional staff; 6 students FFA Broadcasting (@215 Agriculture Business Building): A team of 3 members presents an informative radio program covering one or more agricultural subjects that is current in nature and local in content. The contest assumes that the chapter has a regularly scheduled non-commercial radio program once each month over a local station. Volunteers needed: 3 professional staff and 2 students Public Relations (@ To be determined): A team of between two and four FFA members develops and presents a 5-8 minute program to inform a specified target audience regarding the Texas FFA and what it represents. The presentation is developed assuming that the target audience has no knowledge of the FFA. Team members are asked questions in response to their program following the presentation. Volunteers needed: 3 professional staff; 3 students Awards Ceremony (Carden-Waller Extension Program Auditorium): Assists with coordination and distribution of the LDE awards. Volunteers will need to assist with set up prior to the awards ceremony and from 1:00 – 2:00 pm during the awards ceremony. Volunteers needed: 3 students Lunch Assistants (Tent area by Carden-Waller Extension Program Bldg): Assists with coordination/distribution/serving of LDE lunches. Volunteers needed: 6 professional staff Survey Staff and Special Volunteers: Individuals will be needed for each area to assist with distributing and receiving student feedback surveys as well as host/hostess activities during the day.
