AIER’s Bastiat Society program in Raleigh will host our inaugural event with John Allison, Retired Chairman and CEO BB&T. There is a fundamental philosophic battle being conducted at universities and in the media which will determine the future of our country and western civilization. On one side are the defenders of the classical liberal position best expressed in the Declaration of Independence, the unalienable right to ‘life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness'. On the other side are the statists of all political persuasions who believe that highly educated elites working in Washington, DC and supposedly, always working in the common good, know what is best for all of us. The fundamental ideas underlying each of these positions and their implications for human flourishing will be examined. Eventbrite Registration Required. This event is free and open to the public, but we suggest a donation of $10 to help sustain the chapter. _______________________ Schedule: 5:30 PM - 6:00 PM: Networking Reception 6:00 PM - 6:45 PM: Speaker Presentation 6:45 PM - 7:00 PM: Q&A 7:00 PM - 8:00 PM: Post Meeting Social Hour _______________________ About the Speaker: John Allison, Retired Chairman and CEO BB&T, is an executive in residence at the Wake Forest School of Business.
