Free blood glucose testing, free HbA1C testing, free COVID19 vaccines, flu shots, free health resources, free fresh produce, and hot meals! It is 2021 and Blacks in the United States and around the world are stuck in a role pledged with poverty and subordinacy. Our personal goal is to model strong compassionate leadership and ownership. We believe that until Black individuals are seen in those two specific roles, there might be minor change but no transformation in the visible lives and role of peoples of color in this city, this country, this world. First, we must help heal our communities. Allen Place Community Services, Inc. is planning to host a community wellness event with your help as important community stakeholders! We will provide information and education on diabetes. Test for Hemoglobin A1C, and blood-glucose on the spot testing. We have an Ophthalmologist to screen for diabetic eye changes. We have a Podiatrist to check for non-healing sores on feet that could lead to amputation risk which occurs in African Americans 4 times more frequently than any other race. We will have opportunities for vendors to provide education on other services, jobs and education available in the community. Here's what we have so far: -Rite Aid providing free COVID-19 vaccines for all Pfizer and Moderna (regardless of insurance status) as well as free flu shots with insurance. -Nurses volunteering to provide free HbA1C and blood glucose testing -volunteers to help at the event -securing a Podiatrist and Ophthalmologist for the event to provide free feet and eye screenings for diabetes -organizations offering free health resources, print outs, and giveaways -fresh produce to provide to guests who participate -a local restaurant to act as a food vendor and we plan to incentivize guests with a free meal Register to attend as a community member today for free!
