SALEM, MA — The history of Salem Witch Trial injustice will be remembered and discussed in the context of how it can relate to current times when the Salem-based Voices Against Injustice holds a virtual forum on Wednesday. "Salem Remembers: Connecting Past and Present" is a free online event that will be hosted from the Peabody Essex Museum at 5 p.m. on Wednesday. Those looking to watch the forum can do so here. The forum is set for the 329th anniversary of the date when the final eight people convicted of being "witches" were put to death in 1692. "What lessons can we learn from this history that can advance social justice today?" organizers said will be the theme. Organizers said a panel of experts will address that question and discuss how to create an environment to think through effective action that can be taken to avoid repeating the mistakes of history. Voices Against Injustice was founded as Salem Award Foundation for Human Rights and Social Justice was established in 1992. The group changed its name in 2018 and serves to promote "awareness of human rights and social injustice in contemporary society as a way of keeping alive the lessons of the Salem Witch Trials."
