NEW YORK CITY — A homeless man threw a brick at a handyman's face during a wild fight on the Lower East Side, police said. The caught-on-video fracas unfolded Sept. 15 outside The Pickle Guys near Grand and Essex streets, authorities said. It began when the still-unidentified homeless man began to argue with a 63-year-old handyman, who had offered the panhandler a bagel and a coffee, according to a New York Daily News report. The attacker first threatened the handyman with a chair, struck him in the face and threw him to the ground — all seen on surveillance footage released by the NYPD. The handyman at one point picked up a stick to protect himself, the video shows. "The unidentified male picked up a brick and threw it at the victim, striking the victim in his face," a police release states. The man ran away while the handyman went to a local hospital for treatment of his cut nose and bruised wrist, police said. People with information about the attacker are asked to call NYPD's Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477), visit the Crime Stoppers website or make tips on Twitter at @NYPDTips. All tips are anonymous, police say.
