LONG BEACH, NY — As it gets breezier and fall approaches, it's time to remind residents that the annual Halloween Costume Parade is just around the corner. The city of Long Beach Department of Parks and Recreation holds the holiday-themed event on Saturday, Oct. 9 from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The rain date is Oct. 11. The costume parade has been a fixture for families since the 1970s. Children 12 years old and younger are encouraged to dress as their favorite characters. They can participate in the parade for a chance to win "Best Costume." A mini pumpkin patch will also be displayed at the recreation fields on Magnolia Boulevard, the city said on its Facebook page. What would a Halloween party be without the trick or treating? Children will have the chance to fill a bag with candy from socially distanced tables where they'll find local businesses and organizations. The event is free to Long Beach residents and school district members. You must pre-register a time slot to attend. Click here for an application. All children will receive a free Halloween trick or treat bag. The city says all COVID-19 protocols will be followed and masks are suggested.
