The Renton AmeriCorps VISTA (Volunteers in Service to America) program has openings for the 2021-2022 service year. The program places members in city programs and at non-profits in the city. The goal is to boost the reach and impact of these programs. The VISTA program is patterned after the Peace Corps. The program provides a modest living allowance and additional benefits in exchange for a year of community service. VISTA opportunities range from workforce development and downtown revitalization to food insecurity, housing, and neighborhoods. The program appeals to all ages. Young adults use it to find a meaningful way to connect with their community, gain valuable professional experience, or explore career paths. It's also helpful for older adults looking to transition to a new field and seniors too young for full retirement. Other VISTA openings include Housing Choice Voucher and Seniors (Renton Housing Authority), Early Childhood Learning and Special Populations Title 1 (Renton School District), Free Grocery Store and After School Program (St. Matthews Lutheran Church and Sustainable Renton), and Workforce Development (Renton Chamber of Commerce). For more information and to apply for a VISTA position, go to the AmeriCorps website, create an account, and browse the listings. This press release was produced by the City of Renton.
