SOUTH FARMINGDALE, NY — A Farmingdale man accused of attacking a police officer after hitting a school bus while driving while intoxicated on Monday evening was charged with assault, Nassau police said. Richard Cirillo, 42, was driving a Honda CRV westbound on Ninth Avenue when he struck a school bus heading southbound on Woodward Parkway, police said. The 68-year-old man driving the bus was the only person in it, police said. Officers determined Cirillo was intoxicated, police said. According to police, Cirillo lunged at officers, leading to a struggle in which they all fell to the ground. Cirillo tightened his body and refused to listen to the officers' commands, but he was eventually subdued and arrested, police said.One officer suffered an injury to his left shoulder and was brought to a nearby hospital, police said. The bus driver was not injured, police said. Cirillo was charged with second-degree assault, DWI, resisting arrest and second-degree obstructing governmental administration. He is scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday at First District Court in Hempstead.
