COMMACK, NY — Commack High School was named a 2021 National Blue Ribbon school, the U.S. Department of Education announced Tuesday. The school is among 325 in the United States and one of 19 in New York to achieve the honor. Being named a Blue Ribbon school "affirms the hard work of educators, families, and communities in creating safe and welcoming schools where students master challenging and engaging content," according to the education department. Each school that earns the award is either among the highest performing schools in a state or among the highest performing in closing the achievement gap. "This year's cohort of honorees demonstrates what is possible when committed educators and school leaders create vibrant, welcoming, and affirming school cultures where rich teaching and learning can flourish," Education Secretary Miguel Cardona said. "Blue Ribbon Schools have so much to offer and can serve as a model for other schools and communities so that we can truly build back better."
