House Of Delegates Candidates To Square Off In Online Forum

RESTON, VA — Four individuals vying for House of Delegate seats in the Reston and Herndon areas will be participating in a virtual candidates forum on Oct. 6 hosted by Cornerstones, according to a release. Matthew Lang is the Republican candidate challenging incumbent Democrat Ken Plum in the 36th District, which represents the Reston area. Irene Shin, who defeated incumbent Ibraheem Samirah in the June 8 Democratic Primary, is facing Republican Julie Perry in the 86th District, which represents Herndon and parts of the Dulles area. Hosted by Cornerstones' Advocacy Committee, the online forum will allow the four candidates to discuss the issues facing the region, including affordable housing and workforce development, as well has how to create opportunities to help community members thrive. Roberta Gosling, the vice chair of the Cornerstones Board of Directors, will serve as the moderator. Panelists include Nasia Ashkir, a working mother and Laurel Learning Center parent; Stephen Smith-Cobbs, the pastor of Trinity Presbyterian Church, and Danny Vargas, founder and [president of VARCom Solutions LLC. Featured speakers include Cornerstones Board Chair Larry Schwartz and Kerrie Wilson, CEO of the Cornerstones Board. The forum will be presented as a Zoom Webinar on Oct. 6, from from 7-8:15 p.m. Voters can resister online to view the event. Members of the public may submit questions to the candidates by sending an email to Cornerstones before Oct. 4. Early voting for the Nov. 2 is already underway in Fairfax County. Information about early voting is available online for voters in the Reston and Herndon areas.
