BALTIMORE COUNTY, MD — A familiar face on Route 40 in the White Marsh area will no longer be seen walking around the area.
Stanley Vingsen Jr., 68, was hit and killed by a driver making a U-turn at the intersection of Pulaski Highway and Campbell Boulevard, according to police.
Vingsen was walking south on US 40/Pulaski Highway when the driver turned west and hit him before 9 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 18, officials said.
Investigators with the Baltimore County Police Department did not say what type of vehicle hit him or whether it remained at the scene. Authorities say they are working to determine the factors involved in the crash.
Vingsen was pronounced deceased at the scene, according to police.
He was known as "Pulaski Pete" or "The Walking Man," according to WMAR, which reported a small memorial was planted at a site of the crash and a celebration of life is in the works.
