TOMS RIVER, NJ — A report of a social media threat prompted a shelter-in-place at Toms River High School East on Tuesday, authorities said. The threat could not be substantiated, said Jillian Messina, media relations specialist for the Toms River Police Department. Toms River Police received a report of the threat at 10:42 a.m., Messina said, and the shelter in place was initiated while police investigated and secured the school. She did not detail the nature of the threat but said the origin of the social media post remains under investigation.
