Here are the top stories today in Salt Lake City: Utah Poison Control records 4.5x increase in ivermectin exposures, prompting the Utah Department of Health and the Department of Agriculture and Food to warn against using it as a COVID-19 treatment. According to the Utah Poison Control Center, 50% of people who called the center received medical help as a result of using ivermectin as a way to treat or prevent the virus. State epidemiologist Dr. Leisha Nolen said in a statement, "While there is no data showing it helps with COVID-19 there is very strong data showing it can do harm." (fox13now.com) The Catholic Community Services of Utah launched a 12-week culinary program designed to help people experiencing homelessness to gain skills that can lead to employment opportunities. Originally scheduled to begin last March, the program was cancelled due to the pandemic. Monica Rich, employment and life skills specialist for Catholic Community Services, said it's important to provide opportunities for people to better their situation and a vital part of that has to do with employment stability.
