LITTLETON, CO — A Littleton officer is in serious condition and has undergone surgery after being shot early Tuesday morning, officials said. The injured officer was shot at least three times and hit in the leg and arm, Denver 7 News reported. He was also shot in the chest but was wearing body armor. Officials characterized the incident as a SWAT situation and said officers originally responded to a shots fired call just before midnight in the area of South Bannock Street and West Powers Avenue. Police found a vehicle that matched the description from the 911 call. Two people ran from the scene and police chased after them when one of the people entered the apartments in the 180 block of West Powers Avenue. The officer was shot as he chased the suspect into the entrance but he was able to return fire, officials said. A second officer returned fire but the suspect fled and remains at large. The officer is in serious condition but is stable at a hospital after undergoing surgery. Residents in the Powers and Bannock area can now leave their homes, officials said. Though the area is an active crime scene, police do not believe there is an immediate threat to the community. Anyone with information is being asked to call police at (303) 794-1551.
