SAN DIEGO, CA — A pregnant woman who was stranded and attacked in Afghanistan was brought back to the Golden State, Rep. Darrell Issa (R-Bonsall) said in a statement. The woman, only identified as Nasria, is a 25-year-old resident of Southern California. According to Issa's office, she was trapped in Kabul when it fell to the Taliban. Her friends reportedly contacted Issa's office and the congressman launched an effort to safely bring her home. Issa reportedly "braved beatings and harassment by the Taliban," Issa told Fox 5, adding that she was kicked in the belly and had been in hiding. "Weeks of work and countless hours of coordination paid off," Issa said Friday. "Nasria is finally coming home." Issa married her husband in Afghanistan and left him behind to return to the U.S., Issa's office said. Issa did not specify where in Southern California Nasria was from. "We continue to work around the clock to ensure hundreds of American citizens stranded in Afghanistan are able to escape," Issa said. "Nothing ends until our community is once again reunited with loved ones." Last week, Issa said his office facilitated the return of two American citizens who are in their 80s and were also stranded in Kabul. Their names were not released. "While we have made extraordinary progress, but we're not stopping until everyone comes home," Issa said in a Sept. 15 news release. Countless hours of coordination by our team paid off.
