Pasadena City Manager Steve Mermell Announces Retirement

PASADENA, CA — Pasadena City Manager Steve Mermell said he will retire at the end of the year. His retirement is effect Dec. 2, according to an email Mermell sent to city workers Monday night. "Over the years, I have had the pleasure of getting to know a lot of city employees, and I count many of you as friends and all of you as colleagues," he said. "Day in and day out, you provide exceptional service to our community, and it shows. It will always be a great source of pride for me to have served as your city manager." Mermell said he will help in the search for a new city manager. He declined to say why he was retiring. Mermell has worked for the city of Pasadena since 1989, according to the Pasadena Star-News. He started as an analyst in the city's Water and Power Department and transitioned over to the Finance Department, where he served in several roles, including the department's deputy director. He spent several years as the assistant city manager before being hired for the city's top job in 2016.
