CHEMUNG COUNTY, NY — A Pittsburgh man is one of two people indicted by a grand jury in the kidnapping, torture and murder of another man. Malik Weems, 18, of Pittsburgh and Eddie Marte, 25, are facing first-degree murder charges in connection with the January death of Juan Jose Gotay, 38. A third man, Thomas Bovaird, 25, of Elmira, New York, previously was charged in the case. Weems and Marte also are charged with kidnapping and multiple assault counts. They also were charged with kidnapping another man in April with the intent to have someone pay a ransom, according to the indictments obtained by WENY-TV. The court documents detail a gruesome end for Gotay, who was bound with an electric cord, shot twice, beaten and mutilated. He was then taken to a remote area in northern Pennsylvania and left to die. Weems and Marte are being held in the Ontario County Jail.
