MURRIETA, CA — The Murrieta Police Department announced Tuesday via social media that it is seeking the rightful owner of an "undisclosed amount of U.S. currency" found in the city more than a year ago. Few details were provided, but the department said the cash was found in August 2020 by a citizen in the city. "In an attempt to locate the lawful owner, we are hereby notifying the public and requesting the possible owner of the currency to contact the Murrieta Police Department," the agency said. Anyone who claims to be the owner will be required by police to describe the exact amount of cash as well as specifics to the location it was found, including the container and condition it was found in.
