Winchester Brush Fire Held To 5 Acres

WINCHESTER, CA — A brush fire that erupted Tuesday on the south end of Winchester scorched roughly five acres before firefighters stopped it. The non-injury blaze was reported about 2:20 p.m. in the area of Prairie Crossing Drive and Domenigoni Parkway, just west of Diamond Valley Lake, according to Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department. Responding crews found flames moving upslope at a moderate rate in medium brush. A pair of Cal Fire air tankers and a water-dropping helicopter were deployed to help contain the blaze. No structures were threatened. The fire's forward spread was stopped by 2:45 p.m., according to reports from the scene. As of 2:50 p.m., crews were working to establish containment lines. There was no immediate word on what might have triggered the blaze.
