Press release from City of Berkeley:
September 15, 2021
Berkeley, California (Wednesday, September 15, 2021) - On September 6th at 12:35 am, officers responded to Ashby Avenue and Adeline Avenue on a report that there was a man lying in the center median motionless. When officers arrived, they found the man lifeless, called for medical assistance, and began emergency life-saving measures. When Fire personnel arrived and evaluated the man, they pronounced his death. With no signs of collision on the roadway or trauma to the man's body, the man's death was believed to have been caused by an emergency medical condition.
As part of the death investigation, the Coroner's Office later conducted an autopsy and determined that the man's injuries were actually consistent with being struck by a vehicle—making this the City's fifth traffic fatality.
We believe the fatal collision may have occurred sometime on the evening of September 5th.
