BERKELEY, CA—A mother and son were arrested on multiple charges after an overnight investigation into reports of shots fired in northwest Berkeley. The investigation began around 10:18 p.m. Monday night, according to Berkeley Police Department PIO Byron White. Residents in the 1700 block of Ninth Street told police someone came out of a house, fired shots, and went back inside. White said police found evidence of gunfire in the area. The Special Response Team, Alameda County Sheriff's Office, and Oakland Police Department were also on scene. Police asked residents of the home to come outside. White says 10 people came out and remained outside while a police drone searched the home. No one else was inside, and police found a gun in the home. White said Dameris Alcala, 59 and Oscar Areas, 35 were arrested on weapon and drug charges. He said both are suspected of firing the shots. Berkeley Police said the investigation had ended at 6:41 a.m. Tuesday.
