Northport Council Approves FY2022 Budget, Outside Agency Funding

NORTHPORT, AL — The Northport City Council on Monday unanimously approved both its general fund budget and water and sewer operating budget for fiscal year 2022, in addition to substantial increases in funding for area agencies. Click here to subscribe to our free Tuscaloosa Daily newsletter and breaking news alerts The general fund operating budget for FY2022 came out to $37,465,000 when it was passed, along with $10,731,000 for the city's water and sewer operating budget. City officials praised the FY2022 budget as "fiscally responsible and conservative," in addition to making its way through the Council Finance Committee with a favorable recommendation and passed by the Council before the new fiscal year begins in October. Other budget notes: City sales tax is budgeted for a $1 million increase from 2021 figures. County sales tax is in a similar position, with an increase of $1.2 million.Business license and property tax will remain flat. Step raises for city employees are factored in to the 2022 budget. Outside agency funding increase by 35%, including a 25% bump in funding for the Tuscaloosa Public Library and 51% for Tuscaloosa County Park & Recreation Authority. Revenues for water and sewer were budgeted for a 1.7% increase from 2021, while expenses are expected to increase 1.5% from the previous fiscal year.
