JOB SUMMARYThe Construction Technician is a member of the Smithville Construction Team. S/he will complete construction-related job tasks and projects related to Smithville’s copper and fiber optic plants while working to meet project deadlines successfully. WHAT YOU’LL DO• Climb utility poles and lift equipment weighing up to eighty (80) pounds (Training will be provided) • Ability to operate heavy equipment (Training will be provided) • Ability to sit, stand, climb, kneel, bend, lift, crawl, squat, reach and utilize both hands and feet in an aerial and underground capacity • Environmental exposure will include exposure to heat, cold, dust, wet areas, vibration and loud noises • Must be willing and able to work in all types of weather conditions • Must travel and stay out of town occasionally (10% to 15% of time), when necessary • Must work overtime when necessary • Will be assigned to work a standby on-call rotation • Possess creative and critical thinking skills • Demonstrate excellent customer service skills in each interaction with internal customers, external customers and vendors • Able to work both independently and in conjunction with co-workers to achieve company goals • Embrace continual learning and assist in improving work processes • Must have a strong team mentality • Willing to follow directions/instructions • Other duties as assigned WHAT YOU’LL NEED• High school diploma or equivalent • Valid Class "A" CDL is strongly preferred (if not, required within 90 days of hire date) • Must be able to read, write and speak fluent English • At least two (2) years of general work experience • Committed to excellence and pride in all work • Open to changing priorities and working under tight deadlines • Ability to adapt in a fast-paced environment • Must fully comply with company’s safety program• Preferred knowledge and skills include a) Aerial and underground construction, b) Directional drilling, c) Back-hoe/vibratory cable plow/trencher operation, d) FTTP implementation, and e) Cable jetting TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS• Outdoors exposed to changing weather conditions (85%)• Outdoors but in an enclosed vehicle or temporary shelter protected from extreme weather conditions (10%)• Indoors in a temperature-controlled environment (5%) • Exposure to vibration, improperly illuminated or awkward and confining workspaces, and working above ground level where the possibility of falling exists• Typical schedule is Monday to Friday; 8:00am to 5:00pm WE’VE GOT YOU COVERED• Insurance Plans include Medical | Prescription | Dental | Vision | Term Life | Long-Term Disability | Voluntary Insurance (Our Base HDHP Medical Plan and Base Dental Plan are FREE for you and your family.
