Description
Hello People/ Players of Portland!
We are a Drummer, Guitarist, and Singer looking to round out a Soul-influenced project with a bassist and keys player who are eager to play together, and dig into this kind of music. We want to continue to dig into our love for soul-influenced music, both old and new (think: Stax, Mowtown, Hi, Daptone, Colemine, etc.), and hoping to connect with a bassist and keys player to establish the core of the group (with the hope of adding horns once the foundation is underway). The dream would be to establish a project that is fun, and to move out of the garage and play out eventually, and bring/ share/ celebrate this music with the people of Portland+! So if this post has sparked any interest, reach out and let's connect!
3 Quick disclaimers:
1) To give you a sense of what we're into, we've been practicing "No Time For Dreaming" by Charles Bradley, "Lady Day and John Coltrane" by Gil Scott Heron, and "This Land Is Your Land" by Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings. We welcome collaborators who want to suggest and learn songs, and have fun playing together in the spirit of growth and connectivity.
2) As we put ourselves out there, we would just like to say that we are in our 40s, practice on weekends, and are interested in playing with good people of all skill levels who share the enthusiasm, spirit, AND SOUL for putting together a fun project like this! We draw inspiration primarily from soul and jazz. So, if you got the time, desire to learn, play, and get into it: let's connect! (FYI: We're not looking to make money, or play a bunch of gigs right away. We're focused on our connectivity, playing together to develop our sound, and learning more songs).
3) Last thing: In the spirit of complete disclosure and transparency: we have a space to play/ practice in, but as parents with young kids at home(s), we ask that interested collaborators mask up and be vaccinated to play together. Thanks for understanding!
