Description
The Beecher Cooperative, Inc., is looking to hire a part-time Grounds Maintenance Worker to help us maintain our grounds, as well as assist with building issues as needed. Our cooperative includes six low-rise apartment buildings all on one square block in a quiet corner of Glover Park (between Georgetown and the National Cathedral). The groundskeeper position is 20 hours per week with the possibility to grow to 25 hours. The employee will be expected to cut grass; trim and edge walkways; pull weeds and vines; water grass and plantings; blow and collect leaves and other debris; plant and maintain annuals, perennials and wildflower gardens; trim hedges, bushes and small trees; and maintain gravel walkways, river rock installations and the garden fountain. Our property is mostly forested so there is more weeding than cutting and trimming. As needed, the groundskeeper will be asked to assist the manager and the custodian with special projects, particularly in the off-season. Hours are flexible but noisy tasks such as grass cutting and leaf blowing must be done after 9AM. This is an ideal job for a candidate who works in the afternoon/evening and wants a second job in the morning for additional income, i.e. 4 hours per day, M-F. But the employee may also choose to work any other combination of days/hours that suits both the employee and the co-op, as long as the work gets done well and in a timely manner. All equipment and supplies are provided by the employer. Compensation: $17/hr The ideal candidate for this position: - Is trustworthy - Has an eye for detail - Is capable of working independently - Is able to lift 50 lbs - Works quickly through routine tasks - Has good communication skills and takes instruction well - Is able to take on additional responsibilities, including (but not limited to) winter weather preparedness and response, patching and painting, minor building and apartment repairs - Is authorized to work legally in the United States
