Also visit our Instagram @helmwoodurbanlumber. We are seeking a full time Sawyer/ Sawmill Operator. If you love working with your hands, solving unique problems, and working with wood and lumber production, this will be an enjoyable job for you. The ideal candidate would have prior experience operating a sawmill and/or a skid steer. Experience with metal fabrication is also a plus. Job Description This position can be physically challenging, requiring upper body strength and stamina. We look for a good work ethic, a good attitude, and the ability to problem solve with the end goal and customer satisfaction in mind. A large portion of the work is done outdoors. - Responsible for operating sawmills such as the Woodmizer LT40 Wide and Woodmizer LX250 - Responsible for operating additional equipment such as kilns, surfacing equipment, skid steer, or forklift in a safe manner. (Will train but experience is preferred) - Applies critical thinking to determine appropriate cut lines when evaluating a log to be milled. - May operate various saws and woodworking equipment in a safe manner (table saw, bandsaw, router, planer, jointer, sanders, etc.) - May be responsible for operating metalworking equipment in a safe manner (welder, metal saw, plasma cutter, etc.) - Performs preventive and routine maintenance work on assigned equipment - Measures and uses math accurately - Safely moves large slabs or stacks of wood from one location to another - Keeps work area and shop organized and clean - May use a computer to enter information into a database. - Assisting in log recoveries and making lumber deliveries to customers - Knowledgeable of safety practices and perform tasks in a safe, responsible manner - There may be miscellaneous duties in other areas as needed. Examples: - Loading and unloading from vehicles and assisting with setup - Assistance with property maintenance Qualifications: - Prior Sawmill and/or skid steer experience preferred. - Prior lumber/woodworking operations or manufacturing experience preferred. - Excellent attendance, work ethic, integrity, and use of good judgment. - Ability to work with customers. - Ability to work alone and as a team. - Focus on quality, productivity, and safety while having a high attention to detail - Self-motivated, ability to follow instructions, ability to work well with others. - Ability to recognize problems or concerns and to effectively communicate them - Physical Requirements: Walking, Standing, Sitting, Climbing, Bending, and Lifting in excess of 50 lbs. - High School diploma/equivalent preferred - Valid Texas Driver’s License with a clean driving record. Hours / Pay / Benefits: - Hours are generally 8 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday - Full Time: $15-20/hr starting pay, depending on experience - Helmwood does not currently provide healthcare benefits, however we do provide $175/month reimbursement towards your own healthcare marketplace enrollment. - Accrued paid time-off There’s always a great opportunity to learn new skills in the business if you are interested Helmwood is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
