Description

Revealing the winning team and design of the commemorative artwork in honor of Mayors Ivan Allen Jr. and Maynard Jackson. Atlanta Legacy Makers is an initiative led by Central Atlanta Progress in partnership with the City of Atlanta. This project is a public commemoration of two Atlanta mayors; Ivan Allen Jr. and Maynard Jackson. Through this effort, we embrace the legacy that Atlantans—now and next—are charged to carry forward. Inspired by Gary Pomerantz's book, Where Peachtree Meets Sweet Auburn, the initiative will culminate in a piece of artwork near the intersection of Peachtree St. and Auburn Avenue. Following an open call for submissions, a team made up of architects, local artists, engineers, landscape, lighting and metalwork designers has been selected. Join us as we announce the winning team and design, learn more about Atlanta Legacy Makers, and hear from the following speakers: Mayor Keisha Lance BottomsMayor Shirley FranklinGary Pomerantz, author of Where Peachtree Meets Sweet AuburnFamily members of Mayors Allen and JacksonNote: This will be a limited capacity, in-person event with strict adherence to all COVID-19 public health guidelines, including the requirement of masks. We are monitoring the situation closely and will provide an update if the plans change. Working side by side, CAP and ADID are committed to creating a thriving Downtown Atlanta community for all of its property owners, employees, residents, students and visitors.
