OVERVIEW/JOB SUMMARY: Under the direct supervision of the Party Chief, conduct all preparatory work for daily surveying as well as assist in performing all surveying functions, including field staking and compilation of survey field data. JOB DUTIES: Conduct all daily survey preparation, including loading the vehicle with all necessary supplies and ensuring all equipment is fully charged and functioning Conduct basic plan reading to prepare for surveying at hand (i.e., site plans, boundary plans, highway plans, profile and cross sections, horizontal and vertical curves, pipeline plans, foundation plans, and developing existing and finished contours) Perform basic surveys including leveling, traversing, boundary surveys, construction surveys, topographic surveys, and horizontal/vertical control surveys Operate, check, and make basic field adjustments on field equipment to include but not limited to transits, total stations, robotic total stations, data collectors, levels, compass, tribrachs, tripods, and GPS equipment (RTK, RTN, Static, etc.) Interpret control and boundary monument records and data sheets, as well as locate control and boundary monuments in the field Drive company vehicle to and from job sites and company premises when needed Ensure equipment and supplies are organized and orderly in equipment storage room Ability to meet all working conditions, physical demands, and minimum requirements outlined in this job description with or without reasonable accommodation, as applicable under the ADA, and as needed Perform any other duties as assigned QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION/REQUIREMENTS: High school diploma or GED Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record SKILLS: Proficient with mid-level math High attention to detail Good communication skills Good analytical skills WORKING CONDITIONS: Constantly works in outdoor weather conditions including extreme temperatures and grassy/rocky or steep terrain Exposure to potentially harmful plants and wildlife Must be able to walk, stand, kneel, bend, twist, squat, climb and reach while surveying project sites and operating survey equipment Must be able to lift and carry axes, survey supplies, additional equipment weighing up to 50 pounds to/from and during job site visits Must be able to use a brush axe, machete or hammer Occasional travel requiring long-distance commutes, overnight stays, or temporary relocation near a job site
